John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” Luke 3:11

We all know what it is like to be in cold weather. The kind of cold that makes you shake. Imagine having many layers of clothing and not sharing it with someone who was freezing outside. It would be foolish to not share an extra layer with a freezing person.

John wasn’t just talking about physical clothing here. It is a principle of giving whatever you have been trusted with. He was announcing the beginning of a revolution to bring heaven to earth. What would the world look like if everyone understood this principle.

Is your Fridge full? Now you can share with the hungry.

Do you have physical strength? Now you can help the weak.

Do you have a stable mind? Now you can help the mentally unstable.

Are you a westerner with a bank account? Now you can share it with the third world.

Are you ridiculously educated? Now you can share your knowledge.

Do you have extra time? Now you can babysit for a single Mother.

When we hang onto our metaphorical extra shirt, it just gets eaten by moths in the closet and nobody is helped. We can’t make sense of this world on our own. Life is too tragic and cold. The winds are picking up so let’s clothe each other.
